World Cup 2010 Qualifying Draw & Groups: Africa
Africa will have 6 places for the 2010 World Cup including hosts
South Africa.
After an initial preliminary round featuring the 10 lowest ranked
teams - 5 teams progressed to the second preminary round.
48 teams will compete for the 5 qualification slots from 12 preliminary
groups of four teams. The 12 groups winners plus the 8 best runners-up
will advance to a second group stage of five groups of four teams.
The winners of each group will qualify for the finals in South Africa.
The results also determine qualification for the 2010 African
Cup of Nations so South Africa is the first host nation since
1934 taking part in qualification but qualifies automatically as
host nation whatever its results.
The top three teams in each group will also qualify for the 2010
African Cup of Nations in Angola. Should Angola progress to the
second stage of qualifying all other teams in Angola's group will
automatically qualify for the 2010 African Cup of Nations.
#Eritrea withdrew.
