The Den (previously The New Den) in Bermondsey, southeast London, is the home ground of Millwall FC. Indeed, it is the sixth home of Millwall since the club's foundation in 1890. The stadium opened in 1993 and replaced the original Den which had been the club's home since 1910. The modern Den retains a reputation as a challenging venue for visiting teams due to the intense atmosphere created by Millwall's supporters.

Capacity

The stadium has a capacity now of 20,146, usually reduced to around 18,100 to allow for visiting fans' segregation. The Den was the first new all-seater stadium to be built in England after the Taylor Report into the Hillsborough disaster of 1989. There are four, separate two-tired stands: the East Stand renamed as the Dockers Stand, the South Stand aka Cold Blow Lane Stand, the North Stand for visiting supporters and the West Stand renamed as the Barry Kitchener Stand, after Millwall's longest-serving player from 1966 to 1982.

The Club

Founded in 1885, Millwall (nicknamed 'The Lions') have had a few brief spells in the top flight of English football, the most recent from 1988-1990. The club lost the 2004 FA Cup to Manchester United but went on to compete in the UEFA Cup the following season.

The Lions presently find themselves in the Championship (2024) and have spent time moving between the second and third tiers.

Some former Millwall players known to a wider audience include Keith Weller, Dennis Wise, Sam Allardyce, Teddy Sheringham, Tony Cascarino, and the Aussie trio of Tim Cahill, Lucas Neill, and Kevin Muscat.

Neil Harris is the club's all-time leading scorer with 138 goals in all competitions and later went on to manage the team. George Graham managed Millwall in the 1980s, just before their first-ever promotion to the top flight in 1988 under John Docherty.
